PROGRAM
The Blissymbolic Learning Centre-Muskoka was established in 2002 to help persons who cannot speak enhance their communications skills. 15 students attended the 2002 session – 45 in 2005.
All of our students have cerebral palsy. Almost all of our students have used Blissymbolics as their first language. Some students have progressed to literacy. Most students use electronic communications devices and computers.

At the Learning Centre, we provide instruction to non-speaking Blissymbol users and alumni in assisted communication, literacy and computer use. Our program this year will be to provide 14 weeks of student sessions.
During our residential sessions, students have the opportunity to attend the Learning Centre for up to 2 weeks to upgrade their skills and to enjoy the magic of Muskoka. Students usually attend in small groups of 2 – 4. The Learning Centre provides a full time instructor, technologist, web-master, instructional assistants, and visiting mentors who are experts in the language of Blissymbolics.
The student residence is on the same property as the Learning Centre. During their stay students receive 24- hour personal care. Students are involved in the planning of evening and weekend activities. The Bliss House has a staff of 6 personal care workers directed by a Personal Care Coordinator/Facilities Manager.
Training and accommodations are also provided on site for those who support the students in their home communities (caregivers, parents, tutors).
